I'm thinking of starting a new project with just myself producing/djing but all the names I come up with are already taken.

I think Discogs would be a good place to check, if an artist has had an official release they should be on there. DJs would be a bit harder to find results for, but you could probably search Myspace and Facebook and stuff like that to see if anyone else is using them.

Just make sure to stick to the formula of noun-verb-z

try to be more original than stringing together a noun, verb and z on the end and you might have more luck at making a name.

or you could just be like every other nu-style bore out there.
there's not a problem i can't fix, cos i can do it in the mix...

Have you tried any of these:

Bassimpacterz
Noizeshifterz
Headcompacterz
Hardcontrollers

Fuck, I tried coming up with ridiculously generic and stupid names, but most had been taken.

Here's a tip: pick a name completely unreleated to hardstyle, or bass, or controlling, impacting, shifting or any other verbing anything.

E.g. DJ Proval. You can keep that one.
Noisecontrollers, show 'em what you stole!

Nah needs moar Z. I suggest making it plural (even if there's only 1 of you - eg. Headhunterz (and Tim, I know Headhunterz started out as 2 people)) so you can get your bonus points.

Tha Villagepeepz
Tha Villagepeoplez
Tha Villagepersonz

All these would be better.

Why feel the need to make a new name? Use your own first and surname, plenty of dj/producers do it :)

suits many genres like house, techno, trance etc but it's much rarer in hard dance... imo most names are not appropriate for the type of music.

That only really works for mainstream genres. It also depends whether your name is actually marketable on its own.

Otherwise, a nickname-esque spin on your alias is another option.

I just don't see why its not done in hard dance music. A lot of the names make me cringe.

well i wouldn't use my name personally - amanda grace doesn't sound very hard does it? maybe if i made house or trance it would be ok but it really doesn't work with hardstyle, hardcore, schranz etc imo *shrug*

i wanted to use my first name but its taken by a big name house producer... so i had to have an alias.
